Logon screen section redesigned

January 18, 2007

I've finished the redesign of the logon screen section. I've done the same changes like I did to the wallpapers section last week. You can see thumbnails only on the page. You have to click on them to open the page with a preview and some information about the logon screen. If you want do download it, you'll have to click either on the preview image or on the link below it. This will redirect you to deviantART where the .zip file with the logon screens is located. It's a few more clicks now to get to the finish line, but this is how it has to be.

Another main thing I started to work on is to clean up the website code. I have to do this to make the pages smaller so they can load faster which is good for the visitors who don't have a broaband internet connection. I'm not sure how much speed improvement this will bring since the changes are minimal, but it should give a few miliseconds faster page loades. Because of the website design/layout I won't be able to remove some code, it's simply neccessary to make the site look and work the way I want it, there's simply no way to cut off the code here. I clean up the code around the text in the main area and in the sidebar. I hope to get a little bit closer to the W3C standards aswell. Cleaning up the code will make it easier to create versions for other media than a computer monitor. I want to make it work for Mobile Phones, PDA's and other products like these. A print version of this site should be also available, sometime in the future . Of course I will do this step by step, because I have to check how the search engines gonna work with the latest changes. Also I don't see any reason to speed up things since this website isn't visited as often as I thought it would be. Looks like I should get myself a camera, take photos and upload them to this site . . . need interesting and attractive things to show, then more people should get in here accidently.

Removing broken links!

January 9, 2007

When checking the index of the three big search engines ( Google.com, Yahoo.com, Live Search / MSN Search / Ms. Dewey ) for my website, I saw some things that should be there. Some links showed up that shouldn't exist anymore, aslo saw mistyped links which got indexed and resulted in an Error 404 page whenever someone clicked on that link. I had to get rid of those mistakes so I installed Xenu Link Sleuth, a great program to analize all links on a website. I was curious about how many mistakes the program would find and I have to say there are . . . I mean were . . . a couple bad links. The best is the report that Xenu Link Sleuth creates after the website's been analized. It shows on which site the errors are which makes it easy to find and correct them. There are still some links to change but the critical and the most annoying ones are gone.

Something else I've done, well finally finished, is the reorganisation of the wallpapers page. If you check out the page you'll see the wallpaper thumbnails only, only a list. If you click one of those thumbnails, a page will open with a preview on that wallpaper. Under this preview you'll see some information about the wallpaper. To download it, you'll have to click either on the link bellow the preview or the image itself. This will take you to the specific deviantART page this wallpaper is hosted and by clicking on the download button there, you'll be downloading the wallpaper . . . finally. I know this is a little bit too much clickidy-click, but this is how it's best for me. I'll change the logons to work that way aswell. This makes more work, but it helps the search engines to get listed.

2007 website changes

January 7, 2007

It's 2007 which means it's time for some website updates. "Yes, finally some new images" you say, but I have to disappoint you here a little bit. There is still nothing new I could show you people, dear visitors of this previous website. The updates I'm talking about are more a structural nature. Yes, again some structural changes. Well, actually I haven't finished the ones I've been talking about last year, I'll just continue the work I stoped a while ago.

Changes will be done to the links for the new upcoming pages, which whould (should actually) be picked up better by search engines and this should give better results when somebody's gonna do a search for some keywords related to the content of this website. I'm thinking about writing some small text to each of the images you can see in the galleries, which would help the pages get indexed by search engines a bit better or at least make sure that those pages don't get into Google's Supplemental Results.

A long overdue work is to change the scructure of the site, clear the div's and CSS, cos it's a little bit messy. It's working fine, but it would help a little bit if the code would be more clear than it is now. Since this is a change I would have to work on for some time, I'll leave it for the future, but I guess it would be better to get it done now as long as the website is so small . . . less pages - less work. I should also check for typo and grammar mistakes, cos it's obvious (if you went throught all the news entires) that my writing is a mess.

Anyway, I hope I'll be able to make things work out the way I want them to be and I hope to be able to show you some new work . . . soon.
