This is a long one

September 23, 2004

First of all I should say that I haven't done any update to the site, . . . there is nothing new except this news. What is it about ? ? ? It's about the future layout.

While I was searching the Web interface section at deviantART.com ( to check out what layouts other do . . . to be sure not to create a similar one . . . and to get more new ideas ) I got pointed to some contest for greenprobe.com. I was late for the contest, but this isn't important. The thing that is important is that the contest was about creating a layout based on XHTML and CSS2. What ? ? ? Well, I asked this question myself, too. I have no idea what's different in XHTML so don't ask me about that, but CSS2 is a great way to make your site load faster. I'm tying to make my site faster with CSS, but I'm still using tables . . . CSS2 works without tables. A couple of months ago I was creating iframe sites, what is very old school (peopel told me that) so I switched to tables and now this way is lame and old fashioned, too. I have to keep up with the world and therefor I have to learn CSS2.

Last night I checked a few sites based on CSS2 and I liked them . . . I also searched for some tutorials, some descriptions, how to use it, what the options are . . . and I found a lot. I found a site that has everything described, step-by-step . . . unfortunately tha saves look horrible. I saved the sites on my computer and if I open them tha whole style sheet is gone . . . looks like this is something that comes with CSS2, or those sites have some other scripts built in that mekas it impossible to keep the style.

I'll try to use a downloader, like offline explorer and try to save the whole site this way so I'll be able to surf it the offlien, too, save it in a archive . . .

What's up next, wha'ts with the next layout. I'll try to keep this layout as long as possible ( I'm thinking here about boredom ), but will also try to redesign using css2 . . . that won't be that easy for a nobody like me :D. I'll redesign the "music" site, from white will go to black . . but his will also mean that I gonna seperate the "guestbook", because I still don't have an idea how to use one guestbook but with different styles. The music site will be based on tables, for the first and than it'll become the css2 experiment . . . oh yes, btw, I still don't get the thing with the XHTML. Is it called because CCS2 is used ? ? ? Aynway, Looks like I gonna do a lot of things inthe next time.

If anybody has some good CSS2 sites, tutorials, How-To's information about the data . . . feel free to "contact" me.

Looking forward to

Huh, it's Tuesday. I'm couting the days until my webdesign course starts . . . I'm a bit confused because I didn't get any information about when it's gonna realy start, how may hours I gonna have in one week, whyt group I gonna be . . . I guess that I should call them or at leas mail them. I'm tired a bit today, because I went to bed late at night, or inthe morning, depends from whih perspective you lookin' at. Well anyway here is a small list of changes I did since yesterday.

  • I fixed some bug in the "guestbook" script. It's not a real bug, more an accident or a problem. The website link left in the guestbook (next to the name) opened in the same window/frame/table. So the new site loaded inside this page what looked horrible. I changed this with a few clicks. Thanks to Tasha who pointed out this small problem.
  • Formmailer bug. Last night I got a mail sent via the frommailer. It was empty . . . I have no idea what it was so I checked the mailer. I couldn't send a test mail, I got some referer error message so I checked the firewall and there was the problem. The formmailer can't send a message if your firewall blocks Private header information. I had Remove private header information checked in ZoneAlarm so the formmailer didn't work. I have no idea what's this about so don't ask me, I think it's a server thing. If you would like to mail me via this formmailer than you should allow Private header information for this page and if you don't want to do this (for any kind of reason) than use the e-mail address listed in the "contact" section

There are two other small problems it the "guestbook". Problem one is like the one described above, but this time it's located in the written message. The links writeen in a message (guestbook entry) will open in the same window/frame/table. I have to study the guestboo code and will try to find the place where I can fix this. The second problem with the guestbook is that it won't show the Central European letters, it won't show the letters Ć, Č and Đ . The only two letters that work are Š and Ž. The same thing is at deviantART.com. I have no idea why it won't work. I changed the page coding to charset=iso-8859-2 and it still won't work. I'm realy lost in this thing. I try to fix this small problem since a couple of days without any result.

Banner mania No.2

September 20, 2004

  • New links and banners in the "likage" section robcurran.net and sternenstaubinsel.net
  • Finally got some "wallpapers" up. Actually there are only some thumbnails and informations about the wallpapers and a link to the place they are. The wallpapers are located at deviantART.

Banner mania No.1

September 17, 2004

  • Changed the "guestbook". I found an easier guestbook script on the net. Here is the website I got it from. It's easy to use, to manage, to setup and it looks as minimlaistic as I want to. - I still have no idea how to make the iframe dynamic . . . us I forgot, it's not possible. :D
  • New links and banners in the "likage" section kriegsnet.com and pixelfly.net
  • Changed the text about "this website". I'll add something more later and will show some of the older layouts of the site

Updates

September 15, 2004

  • Fixed a bug in the site navigator
  • Fixed a bug in the "about . . ." section
  • Did a few changes to the guestbook *.css file
  • The "guestbook" opens in the table now, not in a new browser. The guestbook button opens a site with an iframe and the iframe includes the guestbook. I don't know how to make this iframe danymic. I had to set the whole iframe to a specific height so the whole book is visible (the iframe isn't scrolled) I will see what I can do arounf this small issue.
  • I fixed the thing with the formmailer. It doesn't show the server generated site anymore, well for the message that was sent successful. I'll create an error message, too and will upload it in the next few days
  • Reset button added to the formmailer

IE vs. Mozilla things

September 14, 2004

It's Tuesday afternoon and it's time for some website updates

  • Like you can see ( ment to frequent visitors ) I changed the header picture. It was time for a small change. I didn't know what to do so I took a crop of a picture I took and added more negative space, . . . wrote the titel of the website and that's it. This file is smaller than the older one so it loads faster.
  • Changed the header table height from 180px to 182px. I had to do it so thepicture border would be visible. In Mozilla Firefox 0.8 (and I guess the newer versions, too) there is no problem with this small change, but I saw that Interent Explorer 6 shows this 2 pixels with the background color . . . . Realy weird thing this IE is.
  • Formmailer added in the "contact" section. It's a server based formmailer so after sending the message you'll see a site generated by the server. I have no idea how to make it redirect back to the site so just click the back button in the browser and surf the site. I'll try to find some formmailer script that will do this for me, or try to modify this one so that instead of this server generated picture some "thank you" site will show up. I'll see how much time I'll have to play around with this feature.

Is it new?

September 12, 2004

  • New links up on the site under the "people" subsection. You can see on [ new ] which link is new so you don't have to search for the links, if you're a frequent visitor of my site
  • New manip added called Vampire princess
  • Wrote some description to each series in the "photography" section
  • Wrote some description to each series in the "manipulation" section
  • The first "Photoshop tutorial" is up on the site. Well, the .zip file is not located on the same server like this site. Because of the wabspace limitation I put only some information on this site, the file itself is located at deviantart.com

Time is tickin' away

September 1, 2004

So it's September and only 6 1/2 weeks to the webdesign course, until than I'll work on my website.

  • Changed the picture on the intro site and add two visible links to the two different sites under this domain. If you miss one of the sites, . . well then you must be very blind :D
  • I've jsut add a new section called "tutorials". I'll put some tutorials to the site I'll gonna create in the future. I did one for Photoshop, but I have to make it website compatible.
