Give CSS a chance
October 28, 2004
Working again on the site after two days of break. I don't know when the site will be finished, because I don't feel that great, I'm sick. I'll go to the doc today and ask her for some medic.
I checked again some new sites about CSS and CSS2 and came to "csszengarden.com", again. First I didn't kwnow what this site is about but now I know what the purpose of this site is. It's a site where everybody can create a style sheet for. The content is the same, but not the styles. The site is available in over 130 different style sheets so far. It's pretty amazing what stlye some people have created for the site. If I finish this site I might create some layout for "csszengarden.com", because It's a nice way to show the skills.
- Changed <abbr> tags to <acronym> tags, because I read in a reference list that <abbr> tags are not supported by IE. I checked it and saw that IE doesn't support <abbr> tags
- Did a <acronym> tag format in the CSS. I had to do this because IE didn't show the <acronym> underlined. If I moved the mouse coursor over one I can see the popup information, but I can't see which word has one, so that's why I added a dotted border. In IE it's a dashed border.
- Changed the coursor style to "help" when moving over the <acronym>. This makes clear that the word is nock clickable, it's not a link
From HTML to XHTML
October 25, 2004
Last night I started reading some tutorials I found on a site. Well, I downloaded the whole site so I can read the text offline. I read some articles the ones I was searching for. I got the point of them realy fast so I tried to create what the article said and the work went fast. I never thought that it would be so easy. there were some parts I was helpless, couldn't figure out in the first why they won't work, but after some time I figured out everything needed. I was in a learning mood so I didn't stop reading the articles and trying them out. I didn't take attention to the time and when I turned around it was 5:10am . . . Yup, I spent the whole night sitting in front of my computer and learning some things.
I started to work on the recode of my website, but then I was too tired to go on. In the morning the first things I was thinking about was how to work on the recoding. I figured out more things while doing the new code, but still, I'm a newbie. I still don't know the possibilities and the options of XHTML so this it might take some time until the site supports all XHTML standards. I'll better go back to work, but before I go here is a small list of thing's I've changed so far.
- The whole site is now working with div layers, no tables exist so far (I'm talking about the changed things)
- Included some <abbr> tags
- Some major changes have been done to the CSS file
- New templates created for the the "news" section
- Change in the php code
- The site structure change is finished, now the broken links have to be fixed
It's a list
October 24, 2004
Today I started the change of the site. Again :D I'll, do the changes step by step, fist the ones that are easy to change and then alter I'll go on the heavy stuff.
- The *.gif image next to the news date is changed to

- A small change in the table style is done (applied to the "news" section at this time)
- Using "<ul></ul> . . . <li></li>" for listing (applied to the "news" section at this time)
Recode is the way to go
October 23, 2004
Today I made a decision, one that will sound crazy and timewasting. I decided not to update my website with the layout I almost finished. Why ? ? ? Well, I don't like it, I don't like the way it looks. This bright layout looks better, is more confortable for the eyes. One big reason is that I still don't know everything I should know about XHTML and CSS2. The answeres I was searching for I finaly found on a site I was told about yesterday at the webdesign course. It's a nice and informative site and I downloaded the whole site so I can read all content without being online (I have a 56K connection).
What will happen now ? ? ? I'll resctucture, reorganize this layout, will include the things I'll learn at the webdesign classes and by myself. It'll take time . . .
Waste of time ? ? ? Somehow it was a waste of time to work on the other layout, but it was a good excercise. Sometimes I went mad because some things didn't work the way I wanted to . . . but the reason was my head, I simply didn't define exact parameters . . . Was mad on the electricity cmpany for not providing stable power, doing all those sensless power outages . . .
Webdesign course started
October 20, 2004
Just came back from the first lessons of the webdesign course and it's fine. Nice computers . . . even if they're Celerons . . . but they're fine, nice TFT displays, good for the eyes . . . A cool tutor . . . I still have the problem with the Saturday lessons, because of the bus thing. One of my cousins told me that there is a bus at 7am, if this is true than there won't be a problem at all.
The electricity problems seem to be over, the heavy electricity problems, but there are stilla few outages during the day, but not that extreme like on sunday where the power went out about 6 times in 10 minutes. Yeah, I need an UPS, still need some money to get a good one.
The work on the music sectoin of my site has slowed down. Int he first because of the electricity problems and in the second because it's much more complicated to redesign the existing content. So . . I'm off now to work on the site.
Power outages freaking me out
October 17, 2004
O.K. The work on the site has stoped for the past two days. It's horroble to work if you don't know when the next power outage will be. It's a realy mess these days, I have no idea what thos epeople at the electricity company are doing. The power goes and comes, in the night, the orning, afternoon. All outages are 20 seconds long. Sometimes this happens about 5 times in 10 minutes, it's a realy pissed off situation. It's Sunday and this shit happened today, too. In the night, the early morning and at about 11am it happened again. I'm writing this with a hugh risk, because if the power goes off again I might lose the work I've done and it might damage my computer. I hope To be able to buy an UPS soon, because I need it . . . realy.
It's working . . . . no it's not
October 15, 2004
I'm pissed on the electricity company. The power was gone three times in an hour. Every single day this happens. What the hell should I do. I can't finish my website, cos I have no idea when it'll be the next time the power goes off. My computer can get corrupted and I can throw it away then. I have no money for an UPS. I'll go insane if this will happen every single day. Because of this the whole work on the site is slowed down.
Webdesign course to start soon
October 14, 2004
Thursday afternoon and still working on the layout. Yesterday I had some new ideas so I tried to include it into thie new upcoming layout. It took me about three hours to make change the layout, because I messed things up and had to fix them. Damn, I was pissed, had to do some things two or three times. I was at a point where I thought about giving up the new layout, because it's lame and boring. I looked tat the curret (version two) style and than on the new and saw that the new one isn't that great. It'll take soem time to fix this one, too . . . like it took time to make version two look this way. I didn't make version two look this way in the first, it took me some time, some ideas and some tries to reach the point where I was pleased with the look of it. There is a problem with the site I don't know how to fix. The footer moves down when the main area grows, expands to the botoom, but if the navigaton on the right is bigger than the main area, than nothing happens. The fotter stay at the bottom of the main area and thenavigator on the right overlays. I'll ask somebody next week in the wedesign course.
Yup, finally it'll start. I got today a letter with the schedule. I'm in the group #1 and have courses on Wednesday from 10am to 12am. There is no problem to catch the Wednesday classes, but the ones on Saturday. It starts at 8am, but I have bus only at 6am, so I have to wait over 1 1/2 hours for them to beggin. What the hell should I so at 6:16am on a Saturday morning in the city ? ? ? Winter is coming . . .I gonna freeze my ass off.
New layout soon ? ?
October 12, 2004
The work on the new layout is in progress. I haven't finished it yet, but I already have changed a few things. I placed the navigaton bar under the header picture and the links to the subsections will be on the right in some kinda navigato help. I'll put some things in this navigaton bar, some links, maybe some short news etc. I'll see how it'll look like.
Next stop . . . version 3
October 9, 2004
The work on the new layout is going fine. I have no problems in recoding the whole site, the only problem is that it takes alot time. The good side of this is that later I won't have to restructure the whole site . . . later I only have to change the layout. The following updates are for the new upcoming layout, not for this one.
- The "legals & thanks" section is finished
- The "contact" section is finished
- The "guestbook" got the new layout colors, too. I didn't want to change this in the first, but then I tried the website colors and the guestbook looks fine this way, too.
- The "tutorials" section is working the way it should
- The "logons" section is updates aswell. The thumbnails are now 225x169 px big and in .jpg format. The download links have hover text, too
- The "about" section is finished and working. The WindowsXP screenshot thumbnails a have also the size of 225x169 px.
- The "news" section is almost finished. I only have to fix the links that are not working. This is because of the new website structure. Also have to test something, but this will only happen when the site will be online, because the apache server seems to be incompatible with the code.
Fixed IE bug
October 7, 2004
I haven't done anything with the site in the last couple of days, but today I decided to find the problem with Internet Explorer. I had the feeling to know where the problem was and today I tried to fix it and I was successful. I managed to fix the problem. It was the way the navibar was showed . . . I used floating instead of thething I'm usign now. I have no idea how I should describe it to you right now . . . I'm still a newbie in this thing.
A new hope
October 4, 2004
It's Monday, 4th October 2004 and I started to work on the new website layout. I don't know how long it'll take to finish it, to make it perfect, but I'll try to put it online sa soon as possible. Last week I had a few ideas for the layout, but I'll go with the first one I started to work on. It'll be a minimalistic style, an easy to navigate layout. I hope that it won't get borring after some time.
One of my friedns asked me if I could create a website for him, some small and esay website . . . something he'll be able to update. I told him that I'll do him this favour, but also that it'll take some time . . . even if it's a simple one. I want to try something first and will include this in his site, too . . . The more practice I'll have the better I'll become in this stuff . . . I guess.
No new picture submissions on this site. I have no camera at this time so I can't take photos. My sister arrives in two weeks and she'll bring a digital camera so I'll be able to take photos and upload some of them to the site. I'll think about creating a new series. Well this all depends wether she brings the USB cable or not . . .
Anyway. That's it for now. I'll better go and work on the new layout.
. . . Now I'm realy pissed. I just checked my website with Microsoft Interent Explorer and it sux. The site looks horrible. Firefox and all otehrs show the site the way it shoulb be, but IE 6 simply sux. Nothing is at the right place . . . nothing shows up the way it should.
