Fight the evil
April 9, 2006
Are you a Thunderbird user ? ? ? Yes. How many times did it happen that when starting Thunderbird it tells you that there are seventeen new messages in your mailbox on the POP3 server waiting for download ? You start to download them and when finished you see that sixteen out of seventeen mails are spam mails telling you to buy V-i*a/g+r?a (those sings between the letters are my spam protection for this word ) so you can make your girlfriend more happy than she is. In the last couple of days I got a bunch of those crap stuff and I got very desperate because of this. It's very annoying, especially on a 56K connection where it takes up to a couple of minutes ( sometimes ) to finish the download of the evil things. Today I decided to go on a hunt for some program that can tell the server to delete those mails, but istead of this I found a small program, around 500KB, called Vallen POP3 Mail Checker. The program connects to the POP3 server ( after setting it up ) and lists all mails that are waiting to be downloaded. The only thing left to do is to mark the unwanted mails and click on delete. Now I can use Thunderbird to download the non-spam mails. This takes a few seconds, but it's better to spend a few seconds to delete the crap instead of downloading it. Vallen Systems created a very useful little tool and the best thing is, it's freeware. I recommend it to everyone who has the same problems like I have, eeerm I mean had.
New Logon screens
April 4, 2006
I updated the site with the latest created logon screens. They're a part of a series called make me, all in all there are four at this time. I'll create maybe a couple of more in the future, I'll see what stock-photos I'll have to work with. You should know that the logon screens are hosted on a differnt site, well actually they're at deviantART, so if you click on the download link . . . another site will open from where you'll be able to download the logon screen. If I'll find a way to pay a webhost with decent webspace and a huge bandwidth, I'll host the files by myslef. Also updated the wallpaper site with this little note about the file location.
The upcoming things I want to have on the site is a section with miscellaneous photos, a site where I can show photos that are not in any series I've done so far. Also a a site with prints is on my mind. I'm not able to sell prints throught this site but I can show what print are available and where you can obtain them.
At last I would like to point you to a couple croatian photographers. I visited their sites a couple of days ago and looked up their beautiful and excellent work. I won't say else aobut them, the best way is you check out their work at hegedic.net, majahomen.com, mihoci.com, mirkobeovic.com, mirko-sorak.com, pojemario.com and stojcic.com.
Keyword changes
April 1, 2006
Earlier in the morning I had an idea how to improve the way my websites keywords affect on the text written on the site. The problem with the keywords on the site, especially in this news section, was that many of the words didn't match with the content of the site. The keyword became useless which made the page rank very low on search engines.
For example, a keyword selected for January 2006 didn't match with the text on the March 2006 site. There is only one way to override this problem, each site needs a header with an own keyword list. This is obvious, but because of the nature this website is coded, I wasn't able to do so. Well, this is not true. I was able, but I simple didn't come up with the idea, not until today. I'm sure I came along informations about doing this many times before, but somehow those informations must get lost in my head.
It will take a little bit of time to finish this optimization and during this period some small problems might occure while browsing the site. So far I haven't noticed any, but for the case this happens it's because of these changes. I would like to appologize in advance if this happens.
Besides keywords optimisation I'm working on the new style for one of my subdomains. I'll use the same site structure, the only difference will be the color. I was thinkging about a blue music section and a green tutorials section. I have to be sure about a few things until I dedicate 100% of my time to that project.
